Managers V Frys Under 16's
This
game has been a long anticipated and a not to be missed fixture on both sides
with neither team wanting to lose, especially with the Under 16's being the
holders of the trophy.
The
managers side ran out to a standing ovation and proceeded to do a warm up that
struck fear in the Under 16's with a show of physical prowess. The referee
called the two captains together with the managers winning the toss and
electing to attack the factory end.
The game started well for the managers with them retaining
possession well however after 10 minutes due to fatigue the managers were
forced into making several substitutions and at the same time the Under 16's
seized the chance to freshen up their team. It wasn't long before the Under 16's got on top with a fine move down
the left resulting in the deadlock finally being broken with a goal just beating the goalkeeper’s out-stretched hand
by the near post.
The managers came right back at the U16’s after the restart
going close on a number of occasions but the pressure came to nothing as just
before half time the U16’s scored against the run of play going right from the
back to front with a good finish. The half time score was 2-0 to the U16’s.
The teams came out for the second half with substitutions on
both sides which gave the managers the edge for all of five minutes. The U16s started to get on top with the
midfield winning the battles in the middle of the park, a couple of goals
followed with the U16s good play carving right through the managers’ defence.
The ref had done well all match and was called to take action
against one of the managers who was booked for a bad tackle. This then galvanized the managers even more
to seek a goal however, the best move of the match came when a free kick was
given just outside the managers’ box and a well worked routine followed with
the ball being put in the net. The score
was now 5-0 and with only a few minutes left, the managers were not to be
denied and got their well deserved goal just before the end of a pulsating game
of football with the U16s winning and still the holders of the cup.
